Summer, Part I

And finally....SUMMER!!!!

No way better to celebrate than with these besties for monday night water polo and dinner!

First week of summer Lenka and I decided to get crazy and take our boys on a camping trip.  Lets be real....it was one overnight and it was local so we commuted back for baseball, swim, water polo practices.....but all the same I think we rock for doing it.

Owen wanted to contribute to the trip and therefor made his first batch of rice krispy treats to bring and share.

Heading out with my dudes...

Sushi rolls for lunch (so maybe a little big glamping)

We hiked and explored.  We made smores.  We made it to all of our practices.  The moms stayed up all night taking kids to pee and listening to them snore.  All in all it was a successful mom camp!

The next week the boys headed to grandma and gpas for a few days so Brian and I enjoyed a nice date weekend.  Kicked off with drinks by the pool.

And then we hiked the hollywood sign the next morning.

We picked up the boys and unfortunately Owen came home sick so we were down for the count for a few days.  Scott managed to dodge it and I was able to drop him off at swim practice (for the first time, the only other place I've dropped him for practice has been baseball and our two best friends are the coaches so no worries there).  And then by friday we were ready to venture back out.  We needed something low key after all the sickness and it worked out perfectly to go blueberry picking with our friends Katie and Jack
And maybe we came home with 7 lbs of blueberries....

Friday night post practice but pre weekend meet we fueled  up with sushi

And just like that it was time for our first meet of the year.

The boys had a great time and Scott was especially pleased to beat his times from last year.

Chess with friends....swim meet life

He even won his heat in 50 free. Not to mention he swam his first ever IM (his idea)

After a long weekend of swim we rewarded ourselves by baking blueberry pies.

And on Monday...basketball camp for Scott and his buddies

So while these monkeys played basketball from 9-3 every day....

Owen and I started on Owens, adventure week.
Up first, the BMX bike track with his buddy Reed.  Owen had been once before  for Reed's birthday and had been talking about it ever since.  He had a blast and we hope to start going back more regularly.

Adventure week day two brought new floaties and a swim play date with a friend from school.

Day 3 was shop class where Owen (and I) built this lovely little corner shelf.

And then had the basketball crew over for dinner!

Thursday he chose a bike ride at the beach.  We went for miles and miles and eventually found a great spot to park and cross the railroad tracks and explore a "secret beach"

Owen said this was our best adventure yet

And finally rock climbing.  Owen put on his bucket list to "climb a mountain with a rope".  So we figured it was best to start in a rock climbing gym.

He loved it and is probably hooked now!

Closing out the school year

The end of the school year is always such a rollercoaster.  While I am always SO ready for summer (the kids too!) I'm still so sad to see it end.  Especially this school year considering what the last school year had been like for Scott and how this year far surpassed all expectations.

First up, end of the year picnic for Owen's kindergarten class.

Owen doesn't love to have his picture taken and many pictures throughout the year were him covering his face or giving the stink it.  But this night he was his best self and I feel so lucky to have caught this perfect smile and picture with our favorite teacher in the land, Ms. Tori.

And then I even got a sneaky secret shot of him singing and dancing to "tooty-ta"

Just a typical school morning...with only days to go.

Last baseball games of the season...

Scott's team made it to the final game of the play off tournament and ended up coming in second.  Lots of emotions there, but ultimately a season for the books.

And there was probably only about 10 minutes of being bummed out because directly after it was awards time.  The trophy was for first place in the season, the medal for second in the tournament.  Not too shabby to leave the season with all that bling.

And if you have to lose the last game who better to lose to than one of your favorite friends, especially since their teamed clawed their way back from 6th in regular season.  Way to go Rockies and Dom!!!

Cubbies love!

Oh but baseball still wasn't over.  The next weekend brought us over the line tournament.  Basically 4 on 4 baseball....in costumes.

We cheered our trolls on in the heat - Owen even got to dress up with his buddies and when another team called them out the friends were quick to respond with "he's our mascot!" Love those boys!

Baseball forever!

Last week of school and our beach field trip with kinder and these cutest friends!

End of the year party for the Emeralds

And bridging ceremony at school.

What a year for Scott.  It was hard when we first talked about doing first grade again, but there was never one day when we thought it was a mistake.  He has truly soared this year and become a leader at school.  We couldn't be prouder.  And we couldn't be more thankful for the loving guidance he (and all of us really) received from Ms. Marsi.

Last day of school feels - love mob for Ms. Tori!

And these two snuggled their favorite teacher the entire closing circle in first grade.  My heart!

Ms. Tori and the campbell boys....but don't worry we aren't done with her yet (she's teaching 2nd grade next year and Scott is lucky enough to be in her class!)

Cubbies end of the year party

Best all around player....what a kid! Sports = love language
